Groundhog Day Signals Spring Cleaning Time

Punxsutawney Phil, Pennsylvania’s treasured groundhog, emerged to see his shadow this morning and thus predicted another six weeks of winter. However, Phil’s New York counterpart, Staten Island Chuck, made his own prediction at the Staten Island Zoo, calling for an early Spring.

Whether you believe Phil or Chuck, one thing is certain, Spring is on the way.  That means it’s time to start thinking about your plan for Spring cleaning at your commercial facility.

Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

In order to prioritize your list, identify your biggest issues to tackle first.  Small problems can quickly become big, expensive issues if they’re not addressed immediately. Partner with trusted experts like a commercial janitorial firm or licensed handyman to do a thorough inspection of your facilities with you.

Pay special attention to these areas that are most commonly hit hard by the winter months:

  • Ceilings

  • Doors

  • Flooring tiles and grout

  • Carpets

  • Light Switches

  • Storage Shelves

Winter is hard on floors. Rock salt and sand contain magnesium and calcium chloride which can cause carpet surface stains and potentially damage the fibers.  Additionally, hardwood, composite tile, and concrete floors should be properly cleaned at least once per year. Don’t forget those restroom floors as well.  Hiring a professional janitorial team is the most convenient and efficient way to ensure longer life for your flooring surfaces.

Finally, improve your curb appeal by sprucing up your building’s exterior. Sweeping or pressure washing exterior walkways, washing windows, and other basic commercial building maintenance can go a long way in building up that all important first impression.
